Playground Video

Just a quick post today of Rowan surprising me with his climbing and sliding abilities at an indoor playcentre today (really quite fun!). He'll be 17 months tomorrow. :)

Where O Where Has My Baby Gone?

...Where o where can he be?

Of all the odd things to hit me tonight, it was while reading the blog of someone who had recently photographed three brothers in their home. As I looked at the pictures of these boys with their arms around each other, it occurred to me that one day Rowan was going to grow up into someone as tall and robust as them.

And that he might have a brother (or brothers! Or even a sister...!) one day and that he would be the oldest. As I watch Rowan toddling around, piece of toast firmly clasped in one hand and making lopsided grins, how is this even possible.

Oh god, he's going to be turning ONE in six weeks. Where's my baby gone?! o_O

8 Months Old & a Video

This week Rowan turned eight months old and with it has come an explosion in the sounds that will one day become speech. For the last couple of weeks he has been making tiger-like gutteral growls which seems to attract a lot of attention when we're out and about (he does them most gleefully, of course!). Then came 'heh', and this morning begun the full-on 'dededede'. The teacher in me is so happy to hear sounds, and Rowan's little voice is so cute.

Have a listen to it here:

(8 months and 2 days old)

Other musings and favourites of Rowan at 8 months (noted down partially to remind me for his scrapbook pages) include -
  • Pulling up to standing
  • Sitting on the floor of the kitchen watching Matt and I cooking
  • His 'First Words' books and 'Hello Little Chick' book
  • Making choices (between two objects, mainly toys, books or foods; we say their name and hold the two in front of him. You see his eyes dart back and forth a few times before he erupts in a huge smile and grabs his chosen object)
  • LMFAO's Party Rock Anthem (strangely...)
  • Getting into my jewellery stand (now babyproofed)
  • Everything and anything that Nana (my Mum) says illicits a smile or laugh
  • Favourite toys are coloured stacking rings, TV remote controls; and of course...
  • Soft bunny (comfort toy, already bedraggled-looking!)
  • Teething was not fun this month - tooth #3 is now through with #4 not far behind, plenty of near-sleepless nights with these. :(
And a few recent photos to finish:

Standing at Nana's house

(and on me too)

This is 'soft bunny', a very common sight around here lately!

Getting into mischief with one of my necklaces...

This all seems so long ago now (Rowan was seven days old here and I can't believe how BIG that hat was on him then, it was my favourite of his newborn hats)

Rowan's Rolling!

My son Rowan learnt how to roll onto his tummy this week, and now there's no stopping him - he's officially on the move!

Here's a video of his latest efforts:

The Voice

My little Rowan man is 14.5 weeks old, and just over three months. As I type this, I can hear his newly-discovered voice coming from the other side of the room. It's amusing, before he'd have different tones for different needs (ie, sleep or food) but now that he's discovered volume, the same sound is used for everything.

Happy about being fed? Aaaaa-woah-aaaaa.Hungry? Aaaaa-woah-aaaaa.
Tired? Aaaaa-woah-aaaaa.
Chatty? Aaaaa-woah-aaaaa.
Joining in singing? Aaaaa-woah-aaaaa
The saga continues. Of course, both hubby and I are rapt at this new development - our son has a voice! And a beautiful (yet robust) one at that. Every day he is becoming more and more active too, and has tried rolling onto his side a few times (his head is still a bit heavy) from front to back. I'm guessing it won't be too long, I reckon he'll be successful sometime in the next month... and then the babyproofing officially begins, so to speak. ;)

We've also entered the everything-goes-in-the-mouth stage.

Here's a video of Rowan demonstrating his vocal skillz:
